ZEN IN

Whenever you get home from a long, exhausting day of work, the first thing you want to do is relax. Unfortunately, often you leave a chaos to enter one. You have to cook a meal, maybe clean up your place or have any other commitments that won’t allow you to relax. What if you could decorate your home with a calming mat that inspire you to relax? Heymat may have the solution to that request.

Sonja Djønne and Thoralf Lian started the company together back in 2016. With their combination of passion for interior and design and the knowledge of mats for three generations they were able to establish their position in the Norwegian market.

The Norwegian family company has designed a collection of industrial quality mats that, because of their aesthetically pleasing design, are interesting adjustments to your home.

One of the mats was designed by Kristine Five Malvær and is called Sand. The designer got her inspiration from Japanese Zen gardens. In these gardens one can comb through the sand making all these intricate patterns. It creates a zen environment where you can let go of all the thoughts running through your mind. The mat contains the patterns from these sand gardens and complete the image of sand with its beige colour. The pattern creates an atmosphere where you continue to look at it, creating a calm moment where you can close yourself off for a little while.

Sand flows with the trend Radical Escape because of its core purpose. It wants to create a moment where its user can escape the chaos and amount of information. To come home into a meditative and calm atmosphere.
